Gage Parrell (North Okanagan Knights), Mettao Sardinha (Sicamous Eagles) and Hayden Lee (Osoyoos Coyotes) have been selected the Hudl Instat Kootenay International Junior Hockey League 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending Feb. 11/24.
Parrell – Top Forward – The Salmon Arm product had a goal and four assists to help the Knights with a pair of games against the Chase Heat, 5-2, and the Osoyoos Coyotes, 5-4 in overtime to secure second place in their division. Against the Heat, Parrell collected two assists, including on the game-winner. Against the Coyotes, Parrell assisted on Nolan Kelly’s goal to cut the Coyotes lead to 3-1, then assisted on the goal to force overtime and scored the OT winner with his 14th of the season. Parrell leads the Knights with 44 points in 34 games.
Sardinha – Top Defenceman – The Salmon Arm product collected three assists, including on the insurance goal, to help the Eagles defeat the 100 Mile House Wranglers 11-1 on Feb. 7. The 2007-born affiliate player from the Thompson Blazers U18AAA team helped set up Daniel Kroon to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead. He also helped set up goals for Warren Roberts-Lee and Hayden Evans. Sardinha made his KIJHL debut on Feb. 2 against Revelstoke and had his three assist performance in his fourth game.
Lee – Top Goalie – The Denver, Colo., product helped the Coyotes secure a playoff berth with a 41-save shutout against the Summerland Steam on Feb. 9. The Coyotes earned the point they needed to clich the final spot in the Bill Ohlhausen division by going into overtime. Lee wasn’t tested in the extra frame, but made 17 of his 41 saves in the second period, and was named the first star. Lee is 4-5-0 in 11 games with a 4.68 goals against average and a .881 save percentage.
