Nelson, Bourgeois and Kuchaslo named Instat KIJHL 3 Stars



Dayton Nelson (Princeton Posse), Adam Bourgeois (North Okanagan Knights) and Jozef Kuchaslo (Revelstoke Grizzlies) have been selected the Instat KIJHL 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending Feb. 19, 2023.

Nelson – Top Forward – The Cranbrook native helped the Posse take a 2-0 series lead on the Summerland Steam with four goals and two assists. In Game 1, the Posse won 5-4 and Nelson had a goal and two assists. He assisted on the opening goal and the 3-3 goal. In Game 2, 7-2 final, Nelson recorded a hat-trick as he scored the opening goal, then secured the game for the Posse with two more in the second period. His six points are a new career high for the playoffs as he had five assists in six playoff games with the Fernie Ghostriders last season. 

Bourgeois – Top Defenceman – The 5-11, 169-pound blueliner scored three goals and added five assists to help the Knights take a 2-0 series lead on the Osoyoos Coyotes. In a 5-3 Game 1 win, Bourgeois had two goals and four points and was in on the Knights’ first three goals. In a Game 2 6-1 win, Bourgeois netted the winner and added three assists, one of them being on an insurance goal to give the Knights a 3-1 lead. Bourgeois is in his first KIJHL season and produced four goals and 20 points in 26 games. All his goals came on the power-play.

Kuchaslo – Top Goalie – The second-year netminder helped the Grizzlies take a 2-0 series lead against the 100 Mile House Wranglers by posting back-to-back shutouts. The Grizzlies were a defensive force in front of the Mission, B.C. native in Game 1 as he stopped 13 shots in a 6-0 win. Six of his saves came in the third period. In Game 2, Kuchaslo was busier in a 4-0 win, stopping 23 shots, 10 each in the first and third period. In the two games combined, Kuchaslo stopped 36 shots to earn his first career junior hockey shutouts. Kuchaslo also matched the two playoff wins he had last season. In 26 regular season games, Kuchaslo
went 16-6-0.
