The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) has announced its Team of the Week selections for the period ending Oct.12/25.
Forwards:
Toren Fron exploded offensively for the Quesnel River Rush with five goals and three assists in two games. Against the Columbia Valley Rockies, he turned on the lamp five times, including the winner and adding an assist. It’s been nine years since a player scored five goals in a KIJHL game. The weekend performance shot the Spruce Grove, Alta., product up to second among KIJHL points leaders with 16 points in nine games.
Ollie Clement helped the Beaver Valley Nitehawks win their two weekend games with five goals and an assist. Clement had a two-goal performance in their 4-2 win over the Castlegar Rebels, then he netted a hat-trick and added an assist in their 7-3 win over the Chase Heat. Two of his goals were highlight material. Clement was also a plus-2.
Connor Shymoniak helped the Revelstoke Grizzlies split their Cariboo road trip by earning a 5-4 win over the Quesnel River Rush, thanks to his three-goal, four-point performance. Shymoniak netted the winner with a nice breakaway goal. He also scored a goal and set up another in a 7-3 loss to the Williams Lake Mustangs. Shymoniak leads the Grizzlies with nine points in seven games.
Defence:
Landen Janz was a key piece of the 100 Mile House Wranglers offence in their 4-1 win over Kamloops. Janz scored twice, including the winner, and assisted on a goal. Janz was also plus-3.
Chase Kunn collected a pair of assists for the Osoyoos Coyotes, including setting up the winner, in their 6-1 win over the Sicamous Eagles. The Airdrie, Alta., native picked up an assist on a Josh Douglas goal to cut the Merritt Centennials lead to 3-1 in what would be a 4-3 loss. Kunn was plus-2.
Goalie:
Dawson Groen was dominant in the 100 Mile House Wranglers goal winning both his starts as he stopped 65 of 66 shots for a .985 save percentage and a 0.50 goals against average. Groen was great in a 1-0 win over the Columbia Valley Rockies, saving 41 shots. He’s now won three of his six games with a 2.21 GAA and a .938 SP.
